JEFFERSON - - Ashtabula County commissioners approved bid contracts Thursday for road materials to be used on county roads this year.

The materials bid will supply the Ashtabula County Engineer's Office, including the highway division. The traffic paint contract, for $44,490, went to the Sherwin-Williams Co. to be used for road striping projects.

Russell Standard Corp., of Fairview, Pa. was picked as the supplier of asphalt emulsion materials. Its bid totaled $438,152 and runs through May 7, 2007.

A contract for limestone supplies went to Kinder Morgan/ Pinney Dock and Transport LLC in Ashtabula. The total price for limestone delivered to Jefferson is $364,960 and, if picked up at the supplier's depot, the price would be $306,460.

In other actions, the commissioners approved a $4,000 contract to JH Consulting LLC of Buckhannon, W.Va., to update the existing County Emergency Operations Plan to include National Incident Management System compliance. Emergency Management Agency Director Louis Sosler explained the update is needed in order for the county to apply for U.S. Department of Homeland Security funds.

The board also approved two subsidy grant agreements for 2007 with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for a community-based corrections program (adult probation). One agreement for Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court is for $64,114. A subsidy grant for probation activities in Eastern and Western County courts totals $67,528. Both grants are for the same amounts received this year, officials said.
