Hazard Mitigation Planning

Hazard Mitigation Planning

Since 2003, Lake County, Ohio (to the immediate east of Cleveland) has evaluated how it can mitigate the most probable hazard vulnerabilities to its communities. We helped the county’s stakeholders update its hazard mitigation plan, including an all-hazards risk assessment with primary and cascading hazards; a comprehensive asset inventory of critical facilities, economic considerations, historic considerations, and vulnerable populations; structural, contents, and economic loss estimates; and an action plan of projects designed to lessen disaster-related losses. The project ended with plan approval by the state of Ohio and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as well as adoption by all 23 political subdivisions in Lake County.
